Sus primeros recuerdos son los campos y el pilón. Con cuatro años, un incidente al abrir un pilón le provocó una alergia que obligó a su familia a abandonar el sector. Sin embargo, la conexión con la hoja nunca desapareció. Años después, el tabaco volvió a reclamarlo a través del trabajo, la investigación y la defensa del oficio.

Before returning to tobacco professionally, Sanfiel built a life of unusual breadth: professional footballer, cyclist, master diving instructor, speleologist, sailor, and business coach. That range matters because his cigar work never feels narrow. It carries the discipline of sport, the patience of agriculture, the curiosity of exploration, and the strategic structure of someone who has rebuilt systems from the ground up.
In 2007, Finca Tabaquera El Sitio appointed him CEO to lead a full recovery of the company. Over five years, he rebuilt the brand, designed four signature vitolas, and established quality standards that helped define La Palma’s artisan production. His work covered the practical realities behind a cigar: irrigation, fertilisation, harvest traceability, cultivation standards, production consistency, and the small details that separate romance from real craft.

After his work at Finca Tabaquera El Sitio, Sanfiel entered another craft tradition through Destilerías Aldea. There, he led the development of an organic sugarcane cultivation programme that produced the ron agricole Caña Pura and designed the island’s Museum of Sugarcane and Rum. The connection is logical: tobacco and rum both demand agricultural intelligence, patience, fermentation knowledge, sensory discipline, and respect for origin.
In 2017, he launched a broader initiative to promote La Palma’s artisan producers through tastings, pairings, and cultural events. His work has extended through sommelier education, international tobacco fairs, specialist writing, and the regulatory effort to define premium cigar standards for La Palma’s Biosphere Reserve.
Tras su etapa en Finca Tabaquera El Sitio, Sanfiel entró en otra tradición artesanal a través de Destilerías Aldea. Allí lideró el desarrollo de un programa de cultivo ecológico de caña de azúcar que dio origen al ron agrícola Caña Pura y diseñó el Museo de la Caña de Azúcar y el Ron de la isla. La conexión es lógica: el tabaco y el ron exigen inteligencia agrícola, paciencia, conocimiento de fermentación, disciplina sensorial y respeto por el origen.
En 2017, puso en marcha una iniciativa más amplia para promover a los productores artesanales de La Palma mediante catas, maridajes y eventos culturales. Su trabajo se ha extendido a la formación de sumilleres, ferias internacionales del tabaco, escritura especializada y el esfuerzo regulatorio para definir estándares de puro premium para la Reserva de la Biosfera de La Palma.
