Mara Guard
Creative Director, Art Director & Co-Founder — Modern Gentleman ArchiveMara Guard is the Creative Director, Art Director, and Co-Founder of Modern Gentleman Archive, where she shapes the publication's visual identity, editorial atmosphere, and luxury image language. A fashion-led creative director, curator, and recognised style creator, Guard works across editorial design, photography, video production, visual storytelling, styling, and the musical tone that defines the Archive's world.
With a Bachelor of Science in Advertising with a focus on Persuasive Messaging, Guard brings a rare combination of instinct, discipline, and visual strategy to her work. Her creative eye is rooted in fashion, music, cinematic culture, and the codes of international luxury. She understands style not as decoration, but as structure: proportion, mood, silhouette, restraint, and emotional control.
Guard's visual presence moves between contrasts: sharp leather and tailored elegance, modern edge and old-world refinement, minimalist styling and deeply atmospheric storytelling. This duality defines her creative direction. Her work feels precise without being cold, feminine without being fragile, and luxurious without relying on excess.
"She understands style not as decoration, but as structure: proportion, mood, silhouette, restraint, and emotional control."
Before and alongside her role at Modern Gentleman Archive, Guard developed a distinctive visual language through fashion content, editorial recreations, styling, and image-led storytelling. Her portfolio is recognised for recreating iconic looks inspired by Vogue, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, and L'Officiel — translating archival and runway references into original modern compositions that are entirely her own.
Her most recognised fashion-led work includes visual recreations and styling concepts centred around Ferragamo Eyewear, Alo Yoga, Saint Laurent Beauty, Ralph Lauren, and STAUD — earning recognition across both social media and the editorial worlds that inform her aesthetic. In 2025, Guard's fashion presence expanded further through the Max Mara runway show during Paris Fashion Week, reinforcing her connection to international fashion culture and European luxury. Her work reflects the eye of someone who studies fashion not as trend, but as history, movement, identity, and power.
At Modern Gentleman Archive, Guard is closely involved in the development of editorial shoots, photography direction, video production, styling references, visual narratives, and the sensory tone of the publication. Nothing is decorative by accident. Every image, texture, rhythm, and reference is chosen to support the world MGA is building: refined, cinematic, disciplined, and culturally aware.
Guard's creative philosophy is guided by clarity, proportion, and mood. She favours intention over excess, atmosphere over noise, and originality over imitation. Her work draws from global fashion houses, classic editorial photography, contemporary art, music culture, and the visual discipline of European luxury. She approaches creative direction as world-building — constructing an emotional and visual environment where every detail has a role.
At Modern Gentleman Archive, Mara Guard ensures that refinement is not only written about, but seen, heard, and felt. Her work gives the publication its visual authority and emotional temperature, inviting readers into a world where elegance is confident, individuality is disciplined, and style becomes a language spoken without explanation.
